as the year draws to a close...

firstly, merry christmas and a happy new year to all - our friends and families - from the 2 of us! 2007 comes to an end, and i wish to take this time to give thanks to everyone, for being part of my life, caring and putting a smile on my face. =)

past several months has been simply too crazy, with A*STAR events, GREs, grad sch applications... and finally, both of us are "free from most responsibilities" (to quote fm), at least in time for all the festivities!

a brief look-back on the many events/activities that happened this year...

~01-Jan-2007~
Touring around Mexico for the winter holidays, we ended up in lively, wild Tijuana on new year's eve and new year's day. went around roaming the streets, trying more mexican food (much more americanized in Tijuana, of cos..) and enjoying the last few days of our break!

Once a blue devil, always a blue devil... and one of the important criteria before graduating from Duke was to tent for the Duke-UNC bball game! although we lost the match (sadly), the tenting craziness was definitely worth the cold freezing nights!

~14-Feb-2007~
Happy Valentines' Day! once again, my darling never fails to send a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers, all the way from California! anyone in the States who wanna send flowers to ur loved ones, ProFlowers is highly recommended, freshness guaranteed! (http://www.proflowers.com/)

~24-Feb-2007~

~March-April~
senior year, the bestest year ever! with almost all of my requirements done, i was taking upper level seminars/discussions which were really not much work. and so naturally, time to party!

Senior year events

~09-Apr-2007~
chapel climb, just for the seniors! after waiting in line for 2 hours++, finally our turn to climb up this small narrow winding stairs to reach the top of the duke chapel and get a view of the surroundings. pretty nice =)
photo with our adorable mascot, the blue devil!

~13-Apr-2007~
senior prom! catching up with some friends, chilling out... photo here with the awesome bio205L (see our handsigns?) classmates!

~17-Apr-2007~
finally, after many many drafts and amendments... got my poster printed and it looked good! thanks to my lab sisters for coming down to support my poster session!

~21-Apr-2007~
last few days of school... and the SSA (Singapore Students' Association) organized a get-together for everyone... and for the farewell of the seniors. great turnout and good times before the final mugging for finals starts!

~25-Apr-2007~
LDOC!!! aka last day of classes! quite a bit of drunken revelry going on, all the kids letting their hair down to get their final chill-out before the finals, with a good band blasting music on the quad too. =)

more pictures coming up in subsequent posts on graduation, travelling and life back in Singapore... stay tuned!

Singaporeans' views on importance of free press evenly divided

This is an interesting BBC article on the public's view of press freedom. I think this survey speaks volumes about us Singaporeans: the govt's education/brainwashing is working. We think least of our local press freedom, and we are evenly divided about whether this even matters. It's back to bread-and-butter issues for us. With our media being fully govt-controlled, who cares what they say about themselves?

Randy Pausch's Last Lecture

Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch, who is dying from pancreatic cancer, gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007, before a packed McConomy Auditorium. In his moving talk, "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," Pausch talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals.

its one and a half hours long, but its worth the time...
